Serageldin chaired the opening plenary session of the eighth meeting of the Regional Action on Climate Change (RACC) held in Kyoto on 1 October 2016. The RACC8 Program theme was “Building Consensus for Action on Climate Threats - Preventing new risk, Reducing existing risk and Strengthening resilience”.
RACC meetings take place the day before the opening of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum and deal with particular experiences of Knowledge-Action Networks in Africa and Europe, the Americas and Asia. The RACC was created in 2009 as an adjunct session to the STS forum to discuss the challenges climate change poses for governments, organizations and regions as they develop adaptation strategies.
