Serageldin was invited to give a lecture at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies as part of several important events being organised by the Centre, relating specifically to libraries and their central role in academic life and the wider development of societies. Serageldin gave a lecture entitled “The Library of Alexandria, yesterday, today and tomorrow”, which was very well received. Farhan Nizami, Director of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies , discussed with Serageldin ways in which there could be mutually beneficial cooperation between the Library of Alexandria and the Centre in the future.
