4th Global Baku Forum: “Towards a Multipolar World”

Nizami Ganjavi International Center (NGIC) held its 4th Global Baku Forum: “Towards a Multipolar World” this week. The event brought together a number of heads of state and government, and well-known political figures, as well as  ambassadors of foreign countries to Azerbaijan.  The Club de Madrid, the Inter-Action Council and the Library of Alexandria are the partners of the Forum. About 300 representatives, including a number of influential political and public figures attended the Forum to address ethnic, religious and political conflicts in the world, development of democracy, education, environment and energy security. The main topics of the Forum were the increasing multi polarization of the world: aspects; effects; governance; prospects; and actions.

 

Serageldin, co-chair of NGIC,  moderated the opening session which heard speeches by President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev; Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev; Former Latvian President, co-chair of the NGIC Vaira Vike-Freiberg; a message from British Prime Minister David Cameron, read by UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Irfan Siddiq; video addresses by Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau; and UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova.

 

On the second day of the Forum Serageldin participated in three sessions: “Shifting from an unequal, divided world to a sharing society: how?” , “Interfaith Dialogue as a venue to present conflicts”, and “How to avoid conflicts in the emerging multipolar world of the 21st Century?” The Forum ended with a press conference.
