At the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Annual Meeting, thousands of leading scientists, engineers, educators, policymakers, and journalists from around the world gathered together to discuss recent developments in science and technology. At the five day event, a session organized by Ronald LaPorte, University of Pittsburgh, was dedicated to “The Library of Alexandria and Global Research Engagement”, where Serageldin spoke of The “Library of Alexandria Grid: The New Horizon for Global Health and Research”. His co-speakers on the panel were Vinton Cerf (Father of the Internet), Google Inc., speaking on the “Digital Dark Age”, and Faina Linkov, Magee-Womens Research Institute, who spoke on the “Status of Publication in Arab and African Countries: Application of Library of Alexandria Research Methods and Mentored Journals”. The session explored the need to build a Library of Alexandria science grid on the Internet to share knowledge and improve scientific productivity in developing countries.
