Serageldin started off his visit to Athens chairing the board meeting of the Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies. This was followed by a meeting with Prokopis Pavlopoulos, President of Greece at the Presidential Megaron. In the afternoon Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, President of the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation and Goodwill Ambassador of Unesco, hosted a an event at the auditorium of the Acropolis Museum, where Serageldin gave a lecture entitled “The Library of Alexandria: Rebirth and Revolution” and was presented with the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation Award 2016 . Preceding this event, a live Interview with Serageldin was held and broadcast by the ERT National TV Channel.
The Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies, was established as a joint collaboration between the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Vardinoyannis Foundation and the University of Alexandria. The Center is open to scholars from around the world who are keen to obtain diplomas, Masters and Doctorates in Hellenistic studies in particular.
