As member of the Board of directors of The “Science and Technology in Society Forum” (STS), Serageldin participated in the Board Meeting held in the National Academy of Sciences in Washington DC to review the activities of the Forum in 2015 and to discuss and plan the budget and activities for 2016. Serageldin also chaired the ICT group discussions at the Council meeting on Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Security in ICT, Development of Nano-industry, Megacities and Smart Cities.
Established in 2004, the STS aims to build a human network, of a very broad a range of participants and organizations, that would, in time, resolve the new types of problems stemming from the application of science and technology. The STS annual meeting is held on the first Sunday of October every year in Kyoto, Japan, and gathers top policymakers, business leaders, scientists, researchers, media leaders and Nobel laureates from all over the world, to address science and technology issues in the 21st century. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, is the Honorary Chairman of its Board of Directors. Serageldin was one of the forty founding members of the STS and has been a major contributor at each of the annual meetings.
